What size boxes are the wraps designed to fit?
Our wraps are designed to fit the larger 10-frame full depth boxes. You can however trim front/rear wrap width/height to fit 8-frame or ideal boxes. In future product releases, we aim to accommodate a greater range of sizes upon checkout.
How many boxes high does the artwork span?
We have specifically designed the artwork to be two boxes high. After careful consideration, we understand hives for majority of the year would typically be two boxes high. In future releases, we plan on releasing a line of wraps for individual boxes that will complement the main artwork. This means all your boxes can be beautifully decorated all year-round.
Where and how can I display my registration number?
It is a requirement by state laws to display your registration number on each hive. Positioning of the registration number needs to be easily accessible, visible and easy to read. On each of our wrap designs you should find adequate whitespace to add your registration number. There are a range of options to apply your registration number while using our wraps:
- Branding hive which still is still clearly visible underneath the wraps.
- Using UV resistant stickers that can be purchased online.
- Writing on by hand with a permanent marker.
How do I prepare my boxes for wrapping?
We've included instructions specific to prepping your bee hives, simply visit our 'How To Install' page.
How do I install my wraps?
Our wraps come with easy-to-follow instructions, ensuring hassle-free installation. Visit our 'How To Install' page where you'll find step-by-step instructions.
Are any bee hive surfaces not suited to wrapping?
Wax dipped & wax dipped, and painting boxes are not suitable for wrapping.
We have been trialling plastic boxes with good success from an adhesion perspective. If wanting to install on plastic boxes, we recommend choosing an appropriate artwork due to the amount of ribs plastic boxes have which leads to loss of artwork on the box. In future, we will also look into providing templates to assist with installing wraps on leading brands of plastic boxes. For further information, please reach out via the contact us page.
Can wraps be installed on boxes in-situ?
The Viponds self adhesive prep coat is also a water based product and is touch dry in 20 minutes. Although we've not done this, we believe it would be possible to install the wraps while your hives are in use, however we recommend installing the wraps when not in-situ.
What if my hives have different handles/fittings than what is provided in the instructions?
We have provided instructions for the typical box configuration. In the event you have a different type of handle, you will need to adapt instructions to suit the particular construct you have. We have found a stanley knife and steel edge (ruler etc) is best for making incisions in the wraps.
How long do our wraps last?
We use only ICON PL-3150 which is a flexible clear polymeric overlaminating film, backed with a solvent-based permanent adhesive system. ICON PL-3150 gives this vinyl outdoor durability for up to 6 years. The life of the wraps is also dependant on proper adhesion at point of installation. Although our business is new and therefore we haven't had our boxes in the elements for years, the Manufacturer Substance Incorporated have been perfecting their product since 2006 and continue to expand their innovation according to one rule: if we can't make it the best, we just don't make it.
How do they handle the weather?
Bee Box Bling wraps are printed on ICON PL-3150 polymeric material that is laminated with a clear vinyl protective coating both rated for outdoor use. As stated above, the lifespan of the wraps is also dependant on proper adhesion at point of installation but the product has outdoor durability for up to 6 years.
Will they fade?
The ICON PL-3150 is the premier choice for short to medium-term graphic protection. The high quality solvent-based adhesive and UV absorbers extend the life of our printed graphics, preventing premature fading and discolouration.
Is this safe for my bees?
We don't believe that our wraps or the Viponds self adhesive prep coat will be harmful to your bees and have not experienced any adverse effects in our apiary. As you will see in some of our images, they also don't affect the bee's ability to hang onto the outside of the hive. It is also proven that bees see and recall shapes to help them find their way home, so having their own uniquely decorated hives should aid their ability to make it home safely at the end of the day.
Are bees still able to climb on the hives?
Most certainly, we have even seen that even when wet the bees can still climb on the bee box wrap surface without any grip issues.
Do the wraps impact hive temperatures?
As we all know, the darker the colour, the more heat an object will attract. Minimising the use of dark colours is a key design principle when developing the artwork for our wraps. Although we've not conducted in field scientific tests, in our apiary we have not noticed any differences in bee behaviour between our wrapped and non-wrapped hives. If you live in warmer climates and this is a major concern, we recommend choosing a wrap with more white space i.e. 'Sunny Disposition'.
Do you create customised wraps upon request?

NOTE: Customising a wrap just for you would require a one-off setup fee for the artwork and minimum order amounts would apply.
